Number portability allows you to transfer your existing phone numbers to Ringover from your current provider. In this guide, you’ll learn how to gather the necessary documents, submit your request, and manage the transition schedule to avoid any service interruption.
Submit and manage your number portability request
1. Gather your portability documents
Before submitting your request, ensure you have gathered all the required documentation based on your location.
Portability in France 🇫🇷
- Portability Mandate: A duly completed and signed mandate form.
- RIO Codes: The Operator Identity Statement (RIO) for each number you wish to port.
- Phone Bill: A copy of your latest phone bill.
International Portability 🌎
- Portability Mandate: A duly completed and signed mandate form.
- Letter of Authorization (LOA): A document that Ringover will provide to you.
- Supporting Documents: Specific files depending on the country, based on our prerequisites catalog.
2. Initiate the portability request from the Dashboard
You can easily start the portability process directly from your account dashboard.
Go to the numbers page.
Click on the add a number button and choose port a number, OR click on the portability button right next to it.
Select the country of the number you wish to port.
4. Understand processing times and scheduling
Portability lead times and execution hours vary depending on the location and carrier rules.
Portability date and lead times
France: we will honor your choice if the request is made at least 10 business days in advance (average estimation in days).
International: portability takes 15 to 20 business days (average estimation in days) after file validation. We will do our best to meet your request.
Portability timelines are average estimates. As the processing speed depends on the country, carrier, and type of number (such as mobile versus geographic numbers), a precise timeframe cannot be predicted. Our team will calculate and confirm an average timeframe once we have reviewed the requested numbers.
Execution hours
- In France: Portability is executed at 10 AM for landline lines and at 11 AM for mobile numbers.
- International: Execution hours are scheduled by our partners in standard windows (9 AM to 12 PM and 2 PM to 6 PM) and will be communicated to you in advance.
5. Prepare for your activation day
Follow a few key administrative steps to ensure your lines transition smoothly without any dropped calls.
- Wait for your portability confirmation email from Ringover.
- Access your Ringover interface.
- Select your newly imported numbers.
- Assign the numbers to your users so they can receive calls immediately after activation. (🔗How to assign numbers to a team member).
What happens on portability day?
- As soon as your former carrier releases your numbers, our team initiates automated operational tests to verify that your lines are active.
- If your current carrier follows the schedule, the transition happens instantly. If there is a delay, a brief interruption may occur, but our team makes every effort to minimize its impact.
Can I modify or cancel my portability request?
- If you need to modify or cancel your portability request, you must inform us at least 48 hours before the scheduled portability date.
- Requests cannot be modified or canceled once this deadline has passed.
Do I need to cancel my current contract myself?
- Portability does not automatically mean contract termination.
- We strongly recommend waiting until your portability is completely finished before canceling your old contract. If you cancel too early and the portability is delayed, you risk permanently losing your numbers.
- Once your numbers are active on Ringover, send a formal cancellation letter to your former provider to stop billing.
Can I cancel before portability is completed?
It is not recommended. If you cancel too early and portability fails or is delayed, you risk losing the use of your number for several days.
🎉 You now know how to submit a portability request and can seamlessly transfer your business phone numbers to Ringover without interrupting your customer service!
