Premium and special number calling allows your team to access essential paid lines and international destinations while keeping full control over your organization's communication costs. In this guide, you’ll learn how to authorize users to dial premium numbers and troubleshoot connection issues.
Managing calls to premium and special numbers
1. Enable calling permissions for a user
To allow a team member to dial special or premium-rate numbers (short numbers or 08 numbers), you need to update their individual user permissions in the dashboard.
- Go to Dashboard > Settings > Users.
- Click "Edit" beneath the desired user.
- Scroll to the "Permissions" section and locate "calls".
- Enable the "out-of-plan destinations" and/or "french premium numbers".
2. Understand premium calling options
You can toggle two distinct types of out-of-plan dialing options depending on your business needs:
Out-of-plan destinations : These represent calls made to countries or regions that are not included in your standard subscription plan. These calls may incur additional charges based on international rates or rates specific to those destinations.
French Premium numbers : These are numbers in France (such as customer service or technical support lines) that are generally premium-rate. These calls may incur additional costs, even when dialed from within France.

3. Troubleshoot calling restrictions
Despite enabling the correct permissions, you may occasionally run into format restrictions when dialing certain numbers.
- Identify format restrictions: Certain special formats, such as 0800 or 0821 numbers, may face compatibility or routing restrictions on the Ringover platform.
- Recognize failure messages: If you receive a "NON VALIDE" message when attempting to call, the call cannot be completed.
🎉 You now know how to authorize users to call special and premium-rate numbers and can manage your team's dialing access while maintaining control over extra charges!
