Frequently asked questions
What is a Tracking Link?
A tracking link is used to measure the effectiveness of your marketing campaigns and activities. In the simplest terms, a tracking link is a normal URL with tags appended to the end. These tags or parameters can be used to indicate the channel a visitor comes from, the type of content they clicked through from.
Email Open Tracking
Email Open Tracking is the process of finding out whether or not a lead opens a particular email sent by a user. This is achieved in the following steps:
- Step 1: An invisible image is embedded in the image that is sent from our tool, Cadence. When the content of the email is downloaded for web or mobile viewing, then the email is considered open.
- Step 2: We only calculate email opens for emails opened after the first 60 seconds of the email being sent to prevent bot scraping.
Where can we find the email open rates?
There are a number of places where you can see email open rates:
-
Cadence Step for automated/semi-automated emails and reply emails.
-
Email Template Statistics:

Email Click Tracking
Email click tracking, or the effective click-through rate (ECTR), is a metric that is used to evaluate the engagement that a particular email is generating in a mailing outreach/campaign. We track our email clicks through custom links. Every time a lead clicks on a custom link, we generate insights regarding the overall engagement of the mail.
(Note: Please ensure that you are using custom links in your emails so that we can properly analyze the ECTR.)
Steps to add a Tracking Link to an email body
These are the following steps to add a Tracking Link to an email body.
- Step 1: Click on Custom Variables and select the Custom link.
- Step 2: Write the Text you want to show for the link inside the parentheses
- Step 3: Select the link option while the text selection is still active.
- Step 4: Now add the link you want to redirect the user to.
- Step 5: Now, this link has link tracking enabled, and when a lead clicks on this link, it will create an activity for the lead and it will also be shown on Cadence.
Frequently asked question
- Q. How accurate is the tracking rate?
Ans. The tracking rate is very accurate, up to 80%. Full accuracy is not possible to achieve because email providers are constantly monitoring and trying to prevent email activity tracking.
- Q. What are we actually tracking?
Ans. We are tracking the number of leads that have opened your email and not the number of times leads have opened the emails.
- Q. If the user is unable to generate custom links.
Ans. Make sure the user has added a hyperlink to the link text within the round brackets of the variable. Do not add a link directly inside the round brackets. Make sure the variable name is correct {{custom_link(<Your Link Text Goes Here>)}}
- Q. If the user is unable to see the click rate on my templates and cadence steps.
Ans. If the ECTR of an email is 0, we do not display it. This usually happens when the email campaign has just started or if you have forgotten to add custom links to the email.
- Q. What happens when the Custom Link is clicked multiple times?
Ans. In the event of a lead clicking on the custom link multiple times, it will still be shown once in the Cadence Step Statistics.
- Q. What happens when more than one tracking link is added to the mail?
Ans. If more than one tracking link is added to the email, and any one of those is clicked, the email will be marked as clicked.
- Q. How does the visual representation of the whole process look?
Ans. To see a visual representation of the process you can Click here.
