Number portability allows you to transition your existing phone numbers to Ringover from your current operator. In this guide, you’ll learn how to gather the necessary documents, submit your request, and manage the transition schedule to avoid any service downtime.
Submit and manage your number portability request
1. Gather your portability documents
Before submitting your request, make sure you have collected all the required documentation based on your location.
Portability in France 🇫🇷
- Portability mandate: A completed and signed mandate form.
- RIO codes: The Operator Identity Statement (RIO) code for each number you want to port.
- Phone bill: A copy of your most recent phone bill.
International Portability 🌎
- Portability mandate: A completed and signed mandate form.
- Letter of Authorization (LOA): A document that Ringover will provide for you.
- Supporting documents: Country-specific files based on our prerequisites catalog.
2. Understand processing times and scheduling
Portability timeframes and execution hours vary based on location and provider rules.
Portability Date and Delays
France: we will honor your choice if the request is made at least 10 business days in advance (average days estimation).
International: portability takes 15 to 20 business days (average days estimation) after the file is validated. We will do our best to meet your request.
Portability timelines are average estimates. Because processing speeds depend on the country, the provider, and the type of number (such as mobile vs. geographic numbers), a specific turnaround cannot be predicted. Our team will calculate and confirm an average delay once we review your requested numbers.
Execution Times
- In France: Portability is executed at 10 a.m. for landlines and 11 a.m. for mobile numbers.
- Internationally: Execution times are scheduled by our partners within standard slots (9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and will be communicated to you in advance.
3. Prepare for your activation day
Take a few key administrative steps to ensure your lines transition seamlessly without any dropped calls.
- Wait for your portability confirmation email from Ringover.
- Go to your Ringover interface.
- Select your newly imported numbers.
- Assign the numbers to your users so they can receive calls immediately upon activation. (🔗How to assign numbers to a team member).
What happens on the day of portability?
- As soon as your former operator releases your numbers, our team runs automatic functionality tests to verify your lines are active.
- If your current operator follows the schedule, the transition happens instantly. If they are delayed, a brief outage may occur, but our team is fully committed to minimizing any impact.
Can I modify or cancel my portability request?
- If you need to modify or cancel your portability request, you must notify us at least 48 hours before the scheduled portability date.
- Requests cannot be modified or canceled after this threshold.
Do I need to terminate my existing contract myself?
- Portability does not automatically mean termination.
- We highly recommend waiting until your portability is fully complete before canceling your old contract. If you terminate too early and portability is delayed, you risk losing your numbers entirely.
- Once active on Ringover, send a formal termination letter to your former provider to stop extra billing.
Can I terminate before portability?
Not recommended. If you terminate too early and portability fails or is delayed, you may lose the use of your number for several days.
🎉 You now know how to submit a portability request and can seamlessly transition your business phone numbers to Ringover without interrupting customer support!
