What is telephone spam?
Telephone spam refers to unwanted communications with advertising, commercial, or malicious purposes. These can come in various forms, such as text messages, multimedia messages, or phone calls. Often, they are targeted advertising messages aimed at promoting products or services. However, telephone spam can also be more deceptive, such as attempting to make calls to premium-rate numbers, sending text messages to premium numbers, or phishing attempts to obtain personal or confidential information. 🔏
Origins of unsolicited call alerts and blocking
Your number could be blocked or labeled as spam for various reasons, such as:
- If someone files a complaint about your number, whether it's considered suspicious, spam, or identity theft. 🔍
- If someone chooses to use specialized applications that allow them to block or view unwanted calls. 📱
- If someone chooses to block calls from any number not in their contacts list. 👤
💡 Note:
Phone Carriers can also block or label specific numbers as spam through call analysis; even your own operator could do so in exceptional cases.
What actions can lead to an increase in spam reports?
- Automatic dialing.
- Use of prerecorded messages.
- Not returning missed calls.
- High volume of outgoing calls.
- Short calls (less than 50 seconds).
- A large number of unanswered calls.
Why are some numbers labeled as spam from the moment they are assigned?
Some numbers may have been previously used, which means they could be labeled as spam due to their previous owner. Although operators usually wait for a certain period before reassigning a number, this time may not be enough.
If you encounter a number labeled as spam, we recommend getting a new number and allowing the old one time to be removed from the spam list. If you need a new assignment, feel free to contact our Numbers/Portability team through our customer service to replace the unwanted number. 📞
What can Ringover do about telephone spam?
It is essential to understand that Ringover cannot control the removal of spam lists. However, we can provide you with some recommendations to improve your calling practices and avoid being labeled as spam:
- Reduce short calls from the same number.
- Avoid calling the same number multiple times in the same day.
- Consider the time when calling your client or prospect.
- Make sure not to hang up when your interlocutor answers your call.
- Leave your contact information and the reason for your call on voicemail.
- Increase call returns and decrease unanswered calls.
- Vary your outgoing numbers if you make a large volume of outgoing calls.
- During your calling campaigns, stay reachable if the person wishes to return your call.
- A number labeled as spam will eventually be considered normal over time.
🚨 Avoid calling people on the unwanted advertising list, for example:
In the United States, do not call people registered on the National do not call registry website.
💡 Another option to reduce risks is to follow "best practices" during your calls, such as using the "after-call work" function, which allows you to control the time between each call and prevent your numbers from being marked as spam. We recommend waiting between 1 to 2 minutes before calling the same number again. 🕒
