The SIP Controller overcomes common limitations of SIP phones by allowing you to manage calls on your device directly through the webapp or desktop application. In this guide, you’ll learn how to activate the controller and utilize its key features to enhance your calling experience.

Activate and manage your SIP controller

1. Prepare the user account

💡 Check the permissions of the client to ensure SIP is activated. If it is not, activate it before proceeding.

Before configuring the phone, you must retrieve the user's SIP credentials from the Ringover dashboard.

Go to your company dashboard, select Configuration, and click on Users.
Find the name of the person who will own the phone (e.g., Laura Durand).
Click on "Edit".
Go to "Permissions" section.
Enable the "SIP account" option.

Go to the user's Ringover settings and navigate to the SIP section to find their credentials.

2. Activate the SIP controller

To make the SIP Controller function appear in your settings, you must first have configured and registered your SIP phone.

Go to your Ringover settings.
Open the "Security and Logins" tab.
Go to the "SIP Account" section.
Enable the SIP Phone Controller option by entering your credentials.

3. Use SIP Controller features

Activating the SIP controller unlocks a variety of tools to manage calls efficiently.

Transfer calls to users or external numbers

You can transfer calls easily, though the 'Ask first' function depends on whether your phone's firmware supports it (e.g., Yealink phones).

Press the button to transfer the call.
Dial the customer or prospect's phone number.
Press send.
Press transfer once the call is connected.

Search for a contact's phone number

Take advantage of your CRM's contact synchronization by searching for the contact's name directly in the dialer or contacts tab.

Manage calls and outgoing numbers

The SIP Controller also allows you to change the phone number for outgoing calls, access call history logs and recordings, add notes and labels to the call, and easily see who is calling.
