How to optimize Ringover for Windows and ensure background notifications

Optimizing Ringover on Windows allows you to guarantee the reception of your calls and alerts under all circumstances, even when the application is minimized or running in the background. In this configuration article, you will discover how to set up your system so you never miss an important customer notification again.

 

1. Configure battery and power settings 

Windows sometimes forcibly restricts background application activity in order to save your device's power. Make these adjustments to keep Ringover continuously active: 

Disable battery optimization

This step ensures that the operating system does not interrupt Ringover's network processes. 

  1. Open the Start menu and click Settings. 
  2. Go to the System menu, then select Battery. 
  3. Set your device's power mode to High performance. 
  4. Check the battery settings specific to Ringover and allow the application to run unrestricted in the background. 
Disable automatic sleep mode 

This option prevents the computer from suspending your communication applications when you step away from your workstation. 

  1. Go to Settings, then select System. 
  2. Click the Power & sleep tab. 
  3. Set your device's sleep timeout to Never. 

 

2. Secure and stabilize the network connection 

To be able to ring instantly during an incoming call, Ringover requires a stable and uninterrupted network connection. 

Prevent network card sleep mode 

This setting prevents Windows from disconnecting your network card to save power. 

  1. Open Windows Device Manager.
  2. Expand the list and select your primary network card.
  3. Double-click it and go to the Power Management tab.
  4. Uncheck the box Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
Configure Windows network and security services

This check ensures that background services required by your desktop applications run normally. 

  1. Press the Windows + R keys simultaneously on your keyboard. 
  2. Type services.msc in the search field, then click OK. 
  3. Locate the service named Application Experience. 
  4. Check that it is running and set its startup type to Automatic. 
  5. Ensure your firewall and antivirus allow the Ringover application and add an exception if necessary.

 

3. Configure and enable system notifications 

Windows system permissions must be configured correctly to allow visual display and ringing for your incoming call alerts. 

Enable application notifications 

This step grants Ringover permission to alert you on your computer desktop. 

  1. Install the Ringover desktop application or Chrome extension on your computer. 
  2. Open the Ringover application and enable notifications in its internal settings. 
  3. Open your Windows system Settings. 
  4. Go to System, then select Notifications (or Notifications & actions). 
  5. Turn on the main switch to allow notifications from Ringover (or your browser). 
  6. Enable the option Show notifications on the lock screen. 
  7. If you are using the web app, allow access to notifications in your browser and check that sound is enabled.

 

4. Troubleshoot issues and maintain the application 

If alerts are not working properly or you are missing calls, follow these quick check steps:

Helps clear common restrictions applied by the system or your application preferences. 

  1. Turn off Focus assist or Do not disturb mode in Windows from your taskbar. 
  2. Keep the Ringover desktop app open instead of minimizing it completely in the system tray. 
  3. Check that the Call waiting management option is enabled in your Ringover preferences. 
  4. Avoid opening and signing in to Ringover simultaneously on multiple sessions or different web browsers. 
  5. Uninstall and reinstall the Ringover application to cleanly reset its files and permissions if necessary. 
Web version specific troubleshooting 

Resolves display and ringing issues specific to web browsers. 

  1. Explicitly allow call and message notifications in your browser permissions.
  2. Check that your browser supports background notifications.
  3. Clear your browser and app cache to remove corrupted temporary files. 
  4. Restart your web browser and the Ringover application. 

If the issue persists despite these settings, contact Ringover support providing your device model, application version, and the call IDs concerned. 

💡 Tip : If you use the web version of Ringover, we recommend installing the Chrome extension or dedicated desktop application to benefit from better connection stability and more reliable notifications. 
⚠️ Important : To benefit from bug fixes and optimal stability, always ensure you are using the latest version of the Ringover app. After making changes to your Windows system settings, make sure to restart your computer to apply the changes.
